The Difference Between Above Ground Pool Filters and In Ground Pool Filters
- Image via Wikipedia
Perhaps many of you have been wondering about the differences of above ground and in ground pool filters as both of them filter water. Also, both use the common types of pool filtration systems which are the sand pool filters, earth pool filters, and cartridge pool filters. However, in this article I will talk about what differentiates an above ground pool filter from an in ground pool filter.
The first difference can be traced when it comes to pool plumbing. Filters are located on next to the swimming pool with above ground pools. This means that its filter, motor, and its pump are placed below water level. This is different with the in ground pools which has many pumps of numerous feet in length. This means that in ground pool filters could push water from more than a hundred feet whereas above ground pool filters could only reach ten feet.
The amount of water could also spell differences between the two pool filters. When it comes to how high water are being pushed, in ground pools are able to draw 15 feet up to the filter while it is lesser for above ground pool filters. When it comes to size, pool and filter size spells great difference between the two types of pools. An above ground pool filter can take up to 20,000 gallons of water while in ground could take up to 40,000 gallons of water. With this, an in ground pool should be filtered 2-3 times a day and requires a larger filter than above ground pool filters.
These differences could really spell a significant difference on how you view the two types of pools and pool filters. It is a must that you should consider these differences to have an informed knowledge which type of swimming pool and pool filters you prefer. I hope this article was able to contribute to your knowledge and decision about swimming pools and pool filters. Read the rest of this entry »
Pool Filtration for Above Ground Pool

Should I fill a pool with water straight from a well or water with a filter and softener?
I filled my above ground swimming pool up with well water. The water was fine for a couple of days and then it turned brownish-green. I am trying a clarifies right now. I’ve checked the filter pump hose and the saltwater system hoses and those seem to be fine. Would it be better to fill the pool up with water that has a filter and a softener? Thanks.
Above ground pool filtration
If I control my pool water with chemicals, and keep it vacuumed, is it necessary to run the filter? I am having problems with the filter due to the water level and the fact that it isn’t leveled very well.
